MR Super League: Monnin goes into the hot August as inaugural leader

Match Race Super League, August 3, 2017. The Match Race Super League started with Match Race Germany in June into it´s first year. As the winner of the 20th anniversary edition of the German Grand Prix on Lake Constance over Pentecost, Eric Monnin and his Albert Riele Swiss Team (25 points) are ahead of Mati Sepps Estonian Saiing Team (18 points) and Max Gurgels Vmax Racing (15 points) are the three top crews in the world ranking of the Match Race Super League (MRSL), entering the hot August which is kicked off with four additional events. Today, in one month, the starting gun will be fired at the Polish classic: Sopot Match Race will be held from 2. to 5. August. The AIRCALIN Match Racing Cup (12. to 15. August) will be held in New Caledonia, the Chicago Grand Slam (18. to 20. August), the Ekaterinburg Cup (16. to 21. August) and Oakcliff International (30 August until 3. September).

The current ranking list shows how the points of the Match Race Super League are allocated at the events. 25 points are awarded to the winner of each event, 18 to the second and 15 to the third place. The following points from 4th till 10th will be allocated in the following order: 12,10,8,6,4,2 and 1point , inspired by Formula One. The ACI Croatia Cup and the New Zealand Match Racing Championships will be held until the Grand Final. The new Match Race Super League is currently happening at the right time: While the America's Cup World is waiting for signals out of New Zealand, whether the most important and oldest regatta will be sailed on catamarans or in foiling monohulls, Matchrace organizers around the globe have united around to revitalize the duell sailing discipline on monohull yachts again. "We believe that the modern sailing world and the true matchracing on monohully perfectly fit together," states Match-Race-Germany organizer Eberhard Magg, "which is why we have relaunched the world series on monohull yachts and gathered the appropriate organizers under one roof. Catamarans on Foils are very spectacular, but the America's Cup has also proved that highly important pre start phase often lacked attractiveness and 'close combat'.

Already in a few weeks the first important signs of the new America's Cup winners from New Zealand are expected to take shape where the future will lead us. The Emirates Team New Zealand starts together with an Italian "Challenger of Record" into the 36th America's Cup cycle. The Italians are regarded as advocates of ultra-modern monohull yachts. The America's Cup could also be continued on catamarans. Matchrace and Cup fans agree that sailing duels on monohull yachts in the formative pre-start phase are more exciting and offer more surprise moments.

The Match Race Super League, which has been sanctioned by the Match Race Association and is supported by the World Sailing, has just published the "Notice of Race" for Sopot Match Race and the AIRCALIN Match Racing Cup and is thus starting it´s preparations for a busy sommer month of August.

The Match Race Super League was founded in 2017 under the slogan "Let's make Matchracing great again!", In order to unite organizers on an international stage again promoting classic matchrace all over the world. Sanctioned by the International Match Racing Association (MRA) and suported  by the World Sailing Sailing, the series was launched with the inaugural MRSL event: Match Race Germany in its first year. In addition to the eight events of the Match Race Super League so far, further events will be added hopefully during the year, but surely in 2018. The format is aimed at more than 20,000 active matchrace sailors worldwide. Information and news around the Match Race Super League and it´s events can be found here:
